Terri's Review: Forged in the Desert Heat by Maisy Yates

A woman that could start a war

The Gypsy Sheikh, betrayer, modern-day marauder—Zafar Nejem has been called many things. And now he is to be called Your Majesty. Returning to the throne of Al Sabah, his first act is to rescue American heiress Analise Christensen from her desert kidnappers.

Since Ana is engaged to the ruler of the neighboring kingdom, her discovery must be concealed until Zafar can explain her presence, or else he risks war. But as the sun rises over the sand dunes, so does the forbidden heat that burns between them, threatening everything…

Terri's Thoughts:

I had received this book as part of a Goodreads giveaway in exchange for an honest review.

Although a Harlequin novel that did follow the expected formula one is accustomed to, this story was a little different than the ones that I have previously read.  Yes there was a powerful man and a socialite woman however this story took place in the desert in some far foreign country.  The attraction between the two characters could have resulted in a war of countries if they were to give in.

There is not too much to say without giving away the storyline however this was a quick easy interlude away from reality.  I read it in an hour and it kept me entertained.

Now for a rant that is not related to the storyline.  I do not know why the book covers to these stories have to be so horrible!  The cover did not in any way make me want to read the story and it looked dated in spite of the fact that the book was just released last month.  I really wish that Harlequin would make an effort to have more updated relevant covers.  Needless to say don't judge a book by its cover holds true with this read.

 Kristine's Thoughts:

* I received a copy of this book through a Goodreads giveaway in exchange for an honest review.*

Forged in the Desert Heat was a quick, easy read as is typical with most Harlequin books. The story was interesting but I felt that Zafar and Ana lacked a bit of the chemistry that was needed to make the story great. Having said that, it was still an entertaining break from reality.

I have to agree with Terri about the cover. It is very cheesy looking and does nothing to draw positive attention to the book.

  1. Hi, ladies! I came across your blog through goodreads, so I figured to stop by and say hello! I am now following your blog, btw! :)

I totally agree with you both! I have read quite a few of these Harlequin romances and the covers are not appealing at all! I've been reading them off and on since the late 80's, early 90's (I am 31 years old) and they STILL look the same! You would think the company would give them a new look, right? It really wouldn't take much to make them look updated, fresh, and sexy.

And again, you are both right. The plots with these books are quite predictable, but hey, sometimes you just need a quick fix in the guilty pleasure department lol.

Anyway, feel free to stop by my blog sometime! Always looking for new blogger buddies to chat with :)

    Best Wishes,
