Review: The Rest of Us Just Live Here by Patrick Ness

What if you aren’t the Chosen One?

The one who’s supposed to fight the zombies, or the soul-eating ghosts, or whatever the heck this new thing is, with the blue lights and the death?

What if you’re like Mikey? Who just wants to graduate and go to prom and maybe finally work up the courage to ask Henna out before someone goes and blows up the high school. Again.

Because sometimes there are problems bigger than this week’s end of the world, and sometimes you just have to find the extraordinary in your ordinary life.

Even if your best friend is worshiped by mountain lions.

Terri's Thoughts

** I received an advanced copy of this book from the publisher HarperTeen via Edelweiss in exchange for an honest review.  The expected publication date is October 6, 2015 **

I have to admit the concept of this story was a little strange for me yet when you really think about it, also a little bit genius.  Essentially it tells the story of a group of people that although there are horrible and strange things going on around them, they are more consumed with the drama within their own lives.  Think about it, that is human nature.  We can turn the news on every night and see all of the horrible things going on in the world yet the things that keep us up at night are the things that impact us directly.  Same premise for this story.

I liked that this story made me think even though on the surface you wouldn't think it would.  This was a case where the supporting characters were actually better than the main character although I feel that this may be by design.

I feel like I have not said a single thing about the plot.  That is intentional.  This is one of those discover it yourself type of stories and I feel discussing the plot would ruin it.  A do feel also that this is the type of story people will either love or hate.  For me I found it interesting.
