Review: Once Kissed by Cecy Robson

Once they shared a night of passion. Now a chance encounter forces them back together. In Cecy Robson’s O’Brien Family series debut—perfect for readers of Monica Murphy and J. Lynn—two total opposites find that the flames of desire are still smoldering.

Tough-as-steel cop Curran O’Brien is quickly rising through the ranks of the Philadelphia police department. But when his rookie partner is almost killed under his watch, Curran just wants to prove he still has what it takes to walk among Philly’s finest. So he’s pissed to be stuck on a cushy security assignment for the DA’s office . . . until he gets a good look at the sweet, straitlaced intern he’s supposed to protect—but not touch.

Tess Newart recognizes Curran instantly. How could she not? Back in college she tied this former frat boy to the bed with her argyle socks! That sizzling one-night stand was the only indiscretion Tess ever allowed herself. She has survived law school so far, despite being pushed to succeed by her overbearing father. Now that she’s interning on a major case against a ruthless crime boss, she won’t jeopardize her career by giving in to temptation again. She just never expected temptation to look so damn hot in uniform.

Tess knows her father has other plans for her, and they don’t include Curran. But soon she’s falling for him all over again. And when danger emerges, Curran will prove just how good a bad-boy cop can be.

Kristine's Thoughts:

** I received an advanced readers copy from Loveswept via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you!**

If you are looking for a steamy book about two people that have issues and probably shouldn't be together for professional type reasons than this book will fill that need.

Once Kissed was filled with all kinds of complications from both of the main  characters. Curran was dealing with unresolved guilt and professional complications after his partner was shot while they were on duty. Tess was trying to cope with being her father's puppet and get through law school at the same time. She suffered years of physical and emotional abuse at his hand but had nothing of her own that would allow her to get out from under him.

Curran was assigned to keep watch over Tess because she was helping the DA's office (and Curran's brother) with a high risk mob case. They recognised each other immediately from one crazy and hot college night that they spent together years earlier. Needless to say, there is ample chemistry and it is instantaneous.

As is almost always the case, the two of them tried to deny the attraction and stay away from each other. We all know how that works out! The more they denied it the more the pages heated up and it was extremely hot by the time they finally acted on it.

The story was at times predictable and a little unrealistic too. Having said that, it was still extremely entertaining and easy to read. The O'Brien family is a big one filled with a bunch of sexy brothers (and one sister) that I'm sure readers will fall in love with. My guess is that Declan gets his story next. At least I hope so. I can't wait to see what is in store for all of them. This is a promising new series.
