Review: Erin's Way (Mountain Meadow Homecomings #3) by Laura Browning

Welcome to Mountain Meadow, Virginia, where love is worth waiting for…

The town bad girl is back, and this time, Erin Richardson is in need of protection. Years ago, her youthful crush on handsome older man Sam Barnes nearly led to scandal. Now she’s on the run from an entirely different kind of trouble: a criminal intent on eliminating his witnesses—including Erin. As the local sheriff, Sam’s duty-bound to provide a safe haven. Though tongues will surely wag once Erin is sharing a house with the sexy lawman….

Erin is still too young, too vulnerable, and too irresistibly beautiful. But when Sam lays eyes on her again, all he wants to do is shelter her in his arms. It won’t be easy keeping her out of harm’s way. But it’ll be even harder keeping the woman he never forgot out of his bed—and his heart…

Terri's Thoughts

I received an advanced copy if this book from the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.  The expected publication date is August 30th, 2016.

This is the third in the Mountain Meadow homecomings series.  I had not realized that I had read the first until halfway through this story.  That being said, it is not really required to read the previous installments however there did seem to be a couple of blank spots with the storylines of the secondary characters.  It was not too drastic tot he storyline however some may prefer to read the series in order.

I really wanted to love this story but I sadly admit that I didn't.  I had one major issue that I just couldn't get past.  Let me try to explain.

There is an pretty big age difference between Erin and Sam.  She is 26 and he is 38.  Not a big deal right?  They are both adults and I agree.  Where my issue lies is the fact that the story references how Sam was attracted to and perhaps in love with Erin from the first moment they met.  It references his attraction several times to an incident that occurred when she was fourteen.  Do the math, when she was fourteen he was way to old to even have her on his radar.  While Sam did the right thing and walked away, I couldn't get past the creepy factor that he only walked away because he knew it was the right thing to do and not because he wanted to.  This put Sam in a not too favorable light for me and I could not get past it.  If the story had stayed away from any attraction when the ages didn't make sense I could have been on board a lot easier.  And the throughout, the reader is reminded of this attraction so there is no chance to forget it.

The rest of the storyline was interesting and what you would expect.  I would have enjoyed it so much more if that back story had not been included.  As adults the chemistry between the two was good and steamy.  It is too bad that I was too uncomfortable to enjoy it.

Sadly, I can't recommend this story.
