I have read all of the books in The Maxwell Series so I was excited to get to know Kross and his story. It is not necessary to read the others in order to follow along but I recommend it simply because the series is enjoyable.
I did not like this instalment as much as the ones before it. It was an entertaining story but I enjoyed the previous ones better. Kross, like all of his other brothers, was easy to like. With his rugged good looks, strong family ties and sense of loyalty, how could I not. I loved the bond that he shared with his brothers. Being a twin, I understood the closeness that they shared.
I struggled a little bit with Ruby. I wanted to like her and I wanted a happily ever after with Kross but her character bugged me on more than a couple of occasions. She was in a terrible situation and was suppose to be trying to prove that she was responsible and able to care for her daughter. However, her actions were the total opposite. She was late for a fight that would have provided her with some much needed funds because she needed time to herself. Granted, it was an illegal fight but still. She was desperate for money and wanted her daughter back so bad but didn't even have a good excuse for being late. She also refused help, refused to listen and pretty much did whatever she wanted even though it hindered instead of helped her situation. I was frustrated with her character a lot. So much so that I didn't fully feel the connection or chemistry between Ruby and Kross.
Even though I was frustrated on a few occasions I still liked the story. Unless faced with a situation like Ruby's one can never say how they would deal with it. Although it was my least favourite of the series thus far I was still happy to get my fill of Maxwell brothers. I also look forward to the next in the series. There is still one Maxwell brother to hear from and I would also be really happy if Dillon got a story or series of his own. In fact, I REALLY want Dillon gets his own book.
