The holiday season always gets me a little sappy and sentimental and I'm a sucker for a good Christmas romance so I thought that reading More Than Friends would be the perfect way to get into the holiday spirit.
Owen and Gabby were best friends that lived in neighbouring apartments. The book began with Owen asking Gabby to pretend to be his girlfriend to fool his family who were coming for Christmas. In exchange he would switch apartments with her because she liked his more. It was very obvious from the very first page that these two desired more than friendship and that the book was shaping up to be a cute friends to lover type read. It was even more obvious when they practised their first kiss.
There were many awkward situations, misunderstandings and hurt feelings to go along with the chemistry and attraction. Gabby was already aware of her feelings and Owen was just discovering his which created much over thinking that exaggerated every scenario.
I thought it was a cute story but I did find myself getting impatient on a few occasions.They were taking their sweet time in coming to their senses. Told from both points of view it was obvious to me as the reader and I just wanted them to tell each other how they felt. However, that would be too easy and would not make for as good a story. Anticipation is everything right?
A bit of time was spent on some of the other tenants of the building which was slightly distracting but helped to set up for future instalments of this series. I have to admit that I am curious about a couple of them.
If you are looking for an clean and cute holiday read that is easy to read, this one fits the bill. The story line was not original but it was sweet all the same.
