My disease is as rare
as it is famous. Basically, I’m allergic to the world. I don’t leave my
house, have not left my house in seventeen years. The only people I ever
see are my mom and my nurse, Carla.
But then one day, a moving truck arrives next door. I look out my window, and I see him. He’s tall, lean and wearing all black—black T-shirt, black jeans, black sneakers, and a black knit cap that covers his hair completely. He catches me looking and stares at me. I stare right back. His name is Olly.
Maybe we can’t predict the future, but we can predict some things. For example, I am certainly going to fall in love with Olly. It’s almost certainly going to be a disaster.

Terri's Thoughts
I had never heard of this book before. I usually rely on my nieces to keep me up to speed on what is new and exciting in the world of YA books and which ones are getting buzz however they failed me on this one although I know they read it (I creeped their Goodreads profile). It wasn't until I saw the movie trailer that I discovered it. After seeing the trailer, I followed it up with a quick call to my sister (mother of said nieces) to ask if I need to read this book. The reason being is that this is exactly the type of movie that has the making of a good girls night out and I never see a movie without reading the book first. Needless to say, the book was purchased and I jumped right in. For those who follow my blog, you will notice my sister did the same as she will also have a review for this story published prior to mine.
I am not going to go in to a lot of detail about the book because to be frank, I am late to the party on this one so I am pretty sure everything has been already said. Instead I am just going to jot down some random thoughts.
1. I thought I knew the direction the story was going to take however I didn't. Good job Yoon!
2. This story is definitely for the YA demographic however I can attest that those outside of this demographic can still enjoy it. This story could have easily moved to the womans fiction genre if there was more focus on the fallout of the events that take place. Sorry that was difficult to say without disclosing anything just in case I wasn't the last person to read this book.
3. Advice for teenage boys out there. If you want major brownie points, take your girlfriend to see the movie (although I haven't seen it, judging strictly by the contents of the book)
I will close by saying that I am really impressed that this is Yoon's first book and it has been as successful as it has been. Kudos! I imagine it is what everyone dreams about when they write a book, that it will be wildly successful and have a movie based on it. I think it is most likely a small amount of people who can be lumped in to this group. In the event that I am wrong, I am off to google it to see!
