"She's done, finished, "had" it. Between her family s expectations and being always-a-bridesmaid, Lily Perry is fed up with being nagged to find a husband. She's happy with her life and tired of being burned by nice guys who demand she fit their dreams. So she s going to settle the issue once and for all: by marrying herself. And celebrated chef Vincent Caro's fabulous restaurant is the perfect place for a big-time, blow-out,  not-hearing-it-any-more wedding. Lily doesn't care if everyone including Vincent thinks she's crazy. Especially when his mouth-watering talent and no-commitments style ignites one sizzling, no-strings fling, or two or more.
But no matter how hard they try to keep things light, their relationship keeps getting hotter. The more Vincent helps Lily tackle unexpected trouble, the more he finds she might be everything he s ever wanted. Can she afford to forget caution and finally let go? And can they both take a risk to discover if what they have is meant to last long after the dessert course?

Terri's Thoughts

I received an advanced copy of this book from the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.  The expected publication date is April 25th, 2017.

I was drawn to the idea of this story, about a girl who is marrying herself as a statement that she is a strong confident independent woman who doesn't need anyone else to be happy.

The problem with this idea?  Lily was not even remotely this person she was attempting to celebrate to be.  I found her insecure and fearful of relationships with huge daddy issues to boot.  I believe this was by design however many times I felt that the story went beyond the expiry date of my tolerance of her insecurities.

I found the same with Vincent.  When first introduced to him, I was captivated thinking this could be very interesting.  Too soon I started getting annoyed with his insecurities and found myself wishing for the intense mystery guy he was at the beginning of the story.  His backstory with his mom was touching.

As much as the insecurities of these two grated on my nerves at times, I found that they worked very well together.  With steaming hot chemistry and commitment issues coming from both parties, there was bound to be all sorts of tension, and not just the physical kind.  The sparring between the two was amusing at times.  On the flip side, while the reader individually sees the depth of each character, I do not believe that they actually saw it in each other which took away from some of the emotional investment in the story.

While this story entertained me, I am not sure it will stand out in my mind down the road.
