Question of the Week: Have you ever read a book you thought you'd hate but loved? Or vice versa? - Suggested by A Great Read

Terri's answer

I can honestly say that if I have I can't recall any specific ones.  If I read something that is recommended to me the recommendation is usually coming from people who know what I like in a book and they do not usually let me down.  If I am reading an ARC, I like to keep my exposure to what others are saying about it to a minimum so that I am not going in to it with any expectations.

Kristine's Answer

I can't think of a specific title off the top of my head but I do know that I have read some books with high ratings that I have hated. When that happens I often question why I seem to be the only one in the world that hated it. There have been a couple that I have strongly disliked that have really high ratings that left me confused. What was I missing?

That is our Feature and Follow Friday for this week! Comment down below if you're a new follower of ours with a link to your blog and we will make sure to follow you back. You can follow us via gfc, bloglovin, email, facebook and/or twitter.

  1. I can totally relate to feeling like the only person in the world who dislikes a book. There are some extremely popular books that I didn’t like at all. They’re horrible. I don’t understand why they’re so popular. :)

  2. Following you on GFC now! :) I know exactly what you're talking about - I'm the pickiest reader in the world and especially with popular books I often find myself hating them. Well, hate is a little strong, but I usually tend to dislike everything that the general public loves. Maybe I'm just a closet hipster or something.

  3. Yeah, I've been there too. Where everyone LOVES the book, but I read it and go, so what? I mean not in a mean way, but I just didn't get it. Like you said.

I am regretting using the word "hate" but for me, it fit with particular scenario I had in my head. Peer pressure basically led me to read it. And back then I didn't even have a TBR pile so I was like what the heck! If I don't like it--like I thought I would--I'd give my friends hell. But I ended up loving it!

    Here's my Follow Friday

    Have a GREAT day!

  4. I don't want to see what others thought of a book anymore until after I've read it, because I feel like it influences what I'll think of it. Old follower. Here's my F&F post: http://mountainrhinestones.blogspot.com/2015/04/feature-and-follow-3.html
